This resolution was passed unanimously by the NEC on November 10.

WHEREAS, recent statements and actions by Donald Trump have suggested a hostile and coercive approach toward acquiring Greenland, undermining long-standing international norms and respect for sovereign nations; and

WHEREAS, Trump’s sudden reversal of his desire for the US to acquire Greenland should not be regarded as his final say on the matter given his chronic instability; and

WHEREAS, the Arctic region is governed by established international agreements that permit allied and axis naval and commercial shipping access, demonstrating that cooperation—not force—is both possible and effective; and

WHEREAS, while there are legitimate and lawful mechanisms through which nations may acquire land—such as voluntary purchase agreements or mutually agreed-upon territorial exchanges—these processes require consent, transparency, and respect for international law; and

WHEREAS, the use or threat of force as a tool of foreign policy destabilizes global relations and contradicts the principles of diplomacy, mutual respect, and international law; and

WHEREAS, Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, a NATO ally, whose sovereignty is internationally recognized; and

WHEREAS, the people of Greenland possess the inherent and internationally protected right to self-determination, including the right to decide their own political future free from external pressure or coercion; and

WHEREAS, Greenland is home to significant natural resources, which must be responsibly managed and used for the benefit of its own constituents and future generations, rather than exploited to serve the interests of external powers;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that any attempt to seize, coerce, or threaten control over Greenland is unequivocally condemned; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that diplomacy, peaceful engagement, and adherence to international law—including voluntary and consensual mechanisms such as lawful purchases or negotiated exchanges—must remain the sole means of addressing territorial and Arctic interests; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Greenland shall remain under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark unless and until the people of Greenland themselves decide otherwise; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the international community reaffirm its commitment to respecting the self-determination of the Greenlandic people, ensuring their right to control and benefit from their natural resources, and rejecting imperial or force-based ambitions in any form.
