About SDUSA

As Mark Twain famously said, “the reports of my death are greatly exaggerated”. Welcome to the Social Democrats USA.

It’s possible that you are already familiar with Social Democrats USA. If not, we have a Heritage page at this site that contains historical information. Also, Kiefer Wolfowitz has created a Wikipedia article about us and it is well researched and constructed.

Back in 2005 we lost a friend and leader when Penn Kemble passed. He was the flickering flame that was keeping Social Democrats USA alive at the national level. It was generally felt that Penn’s death would be the end of our organization. For several years this website, www.socialdemocrats.org, was static. No meetings were held, and in fact, national conventions had ceased long before Penn’s death.

However, there were SDUSA members out there in towns and cities across America who were not ready to let the organization die and wanted to reorganize in spite of objections from the remnant national committee. After a couple of years of churning and burning, storming and forming,we are back in operation. We are admittedly small; certainly not the former SD in stature or recognition, but we are most definitely back. We have dues paying members in 30 states (as of March 2017). And not all our members are from traditional left states; almost half of our members are from states like Kansas, Texas, North Carolina, Indiana, and Utah.

We hope that you will see something in these pages that interests you. And I hope that you will consider joining us.
