Social Democrats USA is not only for the complete abandonment of all military grade firearms. We are also for universal background checks and the reintroduction of the assault weapons ban. However, since special licenses and collectors permits can be given to people who collect World War II and Korean War weaponry, it should be up to mental health professionals and law enforcement to weed out people who are not professional gun owners, with discretion given to gun shop owners not to sell.

We also support a nation-wide red flag law, modeled after the law that recently passed the NYS Legislature and signed by Governor Kathy Hochul. This bill authorizes specified healthcare professionals,  police and district attorneys to apply extreme risk protection orders if there is probable cause that a person poses a threat.
